“Forgiveness” is the way God made right with us. Forgiveness is something that will happen all the time between us and God. God has built a system where we can repent, and ask for forgiveness, and then He can wash us clean.
All our relationships are like this. If we have something against each other we have to say it, and then we have to forgive each other.
Forgiveness is a matter of life or death. Heaven or hell. If you can’t get forgiveness right, then the Bible says God will not forgive you. If you don’t forgive others, God won’t forgive you.
We forgive others and ourselves for the love of God, but also because of the fear of God.
We also forgive because we love God’s people. It’s an expression of love. It’s an expression of humbleness.
What we do when we don’t forgive, is that we are not recognizing His forgiveness for us.
We also do this for ourselves. It’s to no longer drink the poison that comes from unforgiveness.
Mark 11: 22 – 26
22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. 23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and [f]does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. 25 Whenever you [g]stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him [drop the issue, let it go], so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings [against Him and others]. 26 [h][But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”]
In order to overcome battles in our life in His name, we must first forgive the people in our life. To forgive means to “drop the issue, let it go”.
God dropped the charges against us, so we have to do the same for others.
Hebrews 10: 17
Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”[c] 18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
Once you’ve asked the Lord for forgiveness, He forgives and forgets. There is no need to ask Him for forgiveness over the same thing again.
We have to forgive in the same way. This is something supernatural. It’s not an easy thing to do, and many times requires a miracle. It’s like healing from cancer in many of the situations that we need to forgive people.
