We are first going to look into “grace”. Because if you know where you stand, you’ll find it easier to believe that you are a son and daughter of God.
I see people have difficulty to receive good things and believe good things because they don’t understand this topic yet.
Jeremiah 10: 23
23 O Lord [pleads Jeremiah in the name of the people], I know that [the determination of] the way of a man is not in himself; it is not in man [even in a strong man or in a man at his best] to direct his [own] steps.
God has the last say in our lives, we are totally dependant on Him. I am going to sow and give water, but God will make it grow.
It is foolish to be self-confident, but wise to be God-dependant.
Deuteronomy 6: 10 – 12
10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
We are living in this time where God’s grace gives us great things which we didn’t work for and can’t work for. Things are given to us just because we are children of God. This is part of “resting in the finished works of Christ”, and we take hold of the promises by faith.
There is also a warning that we must be careful to not forget the Lord when we enjoy His blessings.
What we believe is the Gospel. The Gospel is the good news we have in Jesus – His Grace.
God’s idea has always been to be good to us, and for us to be thankful and remain close to Him. But people tend to move away from Him after receiving from Him. He doesn’t want us to treat these blessing as cheap and misuse it, because He paid for everything with the life of His Son.
Hebrews 4: 1 – 3
Therefore, while the promise of entering His rest still holds and is offered [today], let us be afraid [[a]to distrust it], lest any of you should [b]think he has come too late and has come short of [reaching] it.
2 For indeed we have had the glad tidings [Gospel of God] proclaimed to us just as truly as they [the Israelites of old did when the good news of deliverance from bondage came to them]; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith (with [c]the leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) by those who heard it; [d]neither were they united in faith with the ones [Joshua and Caleb] who heard (did believe).
3 For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on God) do enter that rest, [e]in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed and prepared [and waiting for all who would believe] from the foundation of the world
To go into God’s rest, we must believe and be totally dependent on God.
Before we were here on Earth, the works has already been completed for us. Now, we must only believe and receive. But love lays its life down for his friend. So, we must also love Him in this manner. We can’t use His grace as a license to sin, but rather to love Him even more.
When we receive our deliverance and inner healing, we are only going back to the cross and taking what has been done there for us.
Hebrews 4: 6
6 Therefore, since the promise remains for some to enter His rest, and those who formerly had the good news preached to them failed to [grasp it and did not] enter because of [their unbelief evidenced by] disobedience,
Those who don’t believe in the finished works of the cross, those that are in unbelief don’t enter His rest.
Hebrews 4: 11
11 Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience [as those who died in the wilderness].
We have a part to do to enter His rest. What is that?
To check our faith, that we find ourselves in the rest of God; to take hold of His promises.
