Grace
and Sonship v2
Galatians 1: 3 – 7
3 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus
Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might
deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God
and Father, 5 to whom be glory forever
and ever. Amen. 6 I marvel that
you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of
Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but
there are some who trouble you and want to pervert[a] the gospel of Christ.
Apostle Paul was mentioning “a different gospel”. One
that puts people back into works and moving away from receiving salvation by
His Grace.
It’s by His grace that we have been saved and into
sonship in Jesus Christ.
The gospel of grace says that we don’t have to work for
something; we take what has been paid for. There is no pressure on me to perform
for His love. I am free to love God if I want to.
This freedom that God has given us; people take for
granted.
Galatians 5: 4
4 For if you are trying to make
yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from
Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
We don’t fall away from God’s grace by sinning. We
fall away from His grace by trying to make ourselves right with God through
works.
1 Peter 5: 8 – 9
8 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious
at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion
roaring [[f]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize
upon and devour.
9 Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established,
strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same ([g]identical) sufferings are appointed to your
brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world.
Withstand the
enemy. But also, be well balanced. We must balance works and grace. Because
without works, faith is dead.
Romans 8: 15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves,
so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought
about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.”
